Before and After: Ranch Farmhouse

This little ranch house took A LOT of work, but we couldn't be happier with the final result! We went for a clean, fresh farmhouse design for this 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house that's just over 1200 square feet.

As you can tell from these before pictures, the house had been completely neglected when we began working on it. Just about everything needed to be replaced - flooring, trim, windows, doors and everything in the kitchen and bathrooms. One of our favorite upgrades was this fireplace. We removed some of the weird framing that had been added around it, added a new wood mantle and put a bold tile on the floor in front.

In order to create the kitchen/dining space that we wanted, we had to move a few walls. The entire back of the house was a long rectangular kitchen/dining space with an unneccesary wall in between. So we took that wall out to get an open concept kitchen and dining area. We were also able to take the back corner of the house which had been kitchen space before, and turn that into a third bedroom.

Because the kitchen was not huge, we really needed to maximize our wall space, but we also wanted it to feel at least somewhat open to the living room in the front of the house. To accomplish this, we wound up adding a five foot wide cutout in the wall of the kitchen which made everything feel a lot bigger. It also wound up being the perfect spot for an eat-in counterspace for the kitchen - a win-win!

We went for all new gray cabinets, stainless steel appliances, black accents and a classic white subway tile backsplash (sorry we couldn't keep that lovely butterfly sticker backsplash).

The master bedroom was already a fairly large room, but felt small with the dark carpet and how much furniture was stuffed in it. The room was actually wide enough that we were able to add a long walk-in closet and expand the bathroom to include a double vanity and full size tiled shower.

We also updated the other existing bedrooms and bathroom, garage and the entire exterior.

Thanks for reading!
